SR-2 resurfacing and maintenance agreement
Council approved a successor six-city agreement with Lake County for SR-2 upkeep and consented to a fully state-funded $4.5 million resurfacing of SR-2 starting in 2028. The deal also dedicates $2 million to finally replace highway lighting.
2026 Road Programs
The city's annual asphalt ($1.3 million) and concrete ($2 million) road repair programs are set, with Mentor-on-the-Lake buying in again for better contract pricing. Work targets completion by late August and mid-October.
Street lighting assessment
Councilman Kirchner flagged numerous dark or dim streetlights from Bellflower Road to Civic Center Boulevard; the city will follow up with FirstEnergy.
Lakeshore Highlands Cut-Through Traffic
An HOA president says 50-75 commuter cars cut through his 50-home neighborhood every morning and has asked for stop signs on Highland Way for six years. City counts showed low speeds and volumes and no changes were made; council asked staff to take another look, possibly with temporary signs during the Route 2/bridge construction.
SR-615 bridge widening over I-90
Design starts this summer on widening the State Route 615 bridge over I-90 to four lanes with longer off-ramps — construction expected in 2029, mostly federally funded.
Chillicothe/Heisley/Mentor Avenue traffic congestion
Signal retiming recommended by Path Master goes live April 8, with Laketran moving its bus stop to the west side of the intersection. Council Member Blake wants to know if these changes could eliminate the need for a controversial northbound turn lane on Chillicothe; the engineer says they'll observe and decide later.
Emergency culvert replacement on Savannah Drive
A 72-inch culvert installed in 1985 partially failed during the March 11 storm, causing a sinkhole. Council approved a $92,600 emergency replacement with a 50-75 year service life.
Lakeshore Boulevard bridge deck replacement traffic impacts
ODOT ramp closures start in April for the SR-44/Lakeshore bridge project, lasting about five months; the city will post signs and monitor the Lakeshore Highlands neighborhood for cut-through traffic.
